Chilly Hilly   by mark on Mar 08, 2007

A couple of weekends ago I was fortunate enough to be on Bainbridge Island and witness the Cascade Bicycle Club's annual Chilly Hilly ride. For those unfamiliar with the ride, it's a 33-mile loop with 2,675 feet of vertical climbing that kicks off the spring riding season. Despite conditions that were rainy and much colder than "chilly," over 4,000 brightly-colored cyclists turned up at the pier in Seattle to take the ferry to Bainbridge Island and ride the challenging course (see pic below).

There were a lot of shivering souls waiting for the ferry after the ride, but once everyone was loaded on and the ship had shoved off Seattleward, shivers solidified into smiles and tales of tribulations on the climbs were told. Kudos to the Cascade Bicycle Club for putting on such a great event!
