The purple is dead. Long live the purple.   by jay on Mar 05, 2009

This week, Planet Bike's favorite bike advocacy group, the Thunderhead Alliance, re-branded itself as the Alliance for Biking & Walking. The original name came from the Thunderhead Ranch in Wyoming at which the first Thunderhead retreat was held in 1992.

“As the movement has grown more sophisticated and stronger with more partners and members, we realize we need a name and image that more effectively communicates our purpose,” explains Jeff Miller, President and CEO. “We are proud of our roots, but the organization has long outgrown its name.”

The Alliance has grown to represent over 140 walking and biking grassroots advocacy groups in North America. Planet Bike congratulates the Alliance staff Jeff, Kristin, Jeremy, and Chandra and the many volunteers on completing this tedious but important re-branding project.
